Gouldian Finches are spectacularly coloured and they feed mostly on seeds. Living in Australia they are small, usually with a black face, though they can be red or even rarely yellow.
They live in the tropical northern regions of Australia and are always close to water as they need to drink a lot.

Rainforest Blossom
The Scarlet tanager (Piranga olivacea) is a stunning gorgeous bird living in the Eastern Forests of America. They are really difficult to find as they stay high in the forest canopy. The females are not so bright so can be even harder to find. They mainly eat insects in the summer but also fruit and spend much time in the deciduous trees of the forest.

Kingfisher
The Ceyx is an Old World river kingfishers.they are found from South East Asia to the Solomon Islands, as their name implies they are always close to water feeding on small fish and insects, they lay their eggs in a small burrow and stand very upright before they dart off in a flash of colour to feed.

Bee Eater
The European bee-eater is a brightly colourful bird with an appetite for honey bees, though they also eat dragon flies and other insects.
The live in a metre long tunnel, such as river banks. When it catches bees it bangs them on the head several times then wipes them on it’s perch to get rid of the sting.

The Raggiana is a Bird-of-paradise, (Paradisaea raggiana) It is found in New Guinea, where it is the national bird of Papua New Guinea. It eats fruit and is important to the forest as it spreads the fruit of 2 important trees, mahogany and nutmeg. It also eats spiders so would be popular with some of us.
